For this family, adding the mother-in-law suite was an opportunity to create an exciting vision of their family's space. The addition of the suite meant the home was not just updated, but recreated. One where the owners were emboldened to demolish old ideas and reinvent the life of their home — not just as an added new space, but as part of its DNA.
Program:
-
Master bedroom with spacious closet
-
ADA bathroom with two doors, one from the bedroom and the other from the Sunroom.
-
Sunroom/living room/Game room.
-
Outdoor kitchen
-
New outdoor walkway and seating area around a fire pit.

For this family, the incorporation of the needs of everyone was made sweeter by the realization that this new project was part of their family’s evolution. The project consisted of adding a unique mother-in-law suite with a bedroom, spacious closet, and an ADA compliant bathroom in addition to new living/gaming room.

The family wanted the addition to feel like it was part of the original house -- inclusion rather than an imposition. They envisioned the bathroom with two doors for easy access as needed. Creating a seamless outdoor/indoor experience was also on their list of desires. Expansive 18’ sliding insulated glass doors and skylights were used in the new sun room to flood the space with natural light. Sun studies were conducted across different seasons and times of day to determine the best window and door treatments. Now, an indoor/outdoor covered area leads to a glorious and welcoming backyard with extra seating, a built-in fire pit, and a new outdoor kitchen.
